Phase 2 Treatment

Time for Braces

Phase II treatment begins when the braces are bonded to the teeth using a special light-curing agent. A complete bonding procedure will take up to an hour and a half to allow time for questions and patient/ parent instructions. We also offer clear braces and Invisalign technology for a more aesthetically pleasing alternative to traditional braces. Responsible eating habits and excellent oral hygiene are imperative to maintaining your new appliances and obtaining that perfect smile. While treatment times will vary due to severity of the problem and patient compliance, the average case will last from 20-26 months.

The Straight - Wire Technique

The standard straight-wire appliance is designed to move teeth to their desired location, without extraction, by using a series of performed archwires. Normal occlusion is achieved by the use of carefully selected angulated brackets especially designed to naturally move the teeth to the desired position.

Once the bands and brackets are centered and bonded the doctor
simply ligates a pre-selected archwire into place. Flexing the wires as it is inserted in the brackets places a corresponding force on the individual teeth. The archwires are then progressively changed until a normal occlusion is achieved. Some of the advantages of this system are; limited or no archwire bending, shorter overall treatment time and consistent quality of the end results. Since the correct angulation is built into the brackets, once they are placed correctly, less chair time is required as treatment progresses.
